In fact, interior designers and hygiene experts agree that floors should be vacuumed once a week. Going more than a week without vacuuming can lead to health problems. Dust and dirt can aggravate allergies and perhaps bring on serious infections, including pneumonia and dysentery.

Homes with pets are prone to pet hair and dander on the floor. More seriously, pets that go outside can bring in bacteria such as cyclospora or salmonella, which can cause infections such as headaches, vomiting, diarrhea and gastritis in humans. So keeping it clean and vacuumed daily helps eliminate bacteria and keep your family healthy.
If daily cleaning is a difficult task for you, then you may consider investing in a robot vacuum cleaner and determine the frequency of vacuuming based on room usage. Robotic vacuum cleaners have a timed work function, so you can set a time for the vacuum cleaner to work on a regular basis and you can go about other things.
The more activity and foot traffic a space has, the more you should vacuum.
- The average vacuum space used per week. Bedrooms and home offices are usually used daily, but with relatively few family members, this allows them to stay clean longer.
- Sweep high-traffic areas every few days. Mudrooms, hallways, kitchens and children's playrooms have above-average wear and tear on the floor and can get dirty more quickly, requiring more frequent vacuuming.
- Clean seldom-used spaces once every two weeks. Guest rooms, formal dining rooms and solariums receive little traffic and can therefore be vacuumed less frequently.
